FOOD TAIPEI 2007- A brief news bite into Asia’s tastiest event!

Welcome to the place where good taste gets its fame at FOOD TAIPEI 2007, June 21 to 24 at the Taipei World Trade Center. Eyes across the industry are on this event that runs concurrently with FOODTECH TAIPEI (Taipei Int'l Food Machinery and Technology Show) and TAIPEI PACK (Taipei Int'l Packaging Industry Show) for fielding the latest flavors, products, and techniques.

This year's FOOD TAIPEI features 8 well-organized and easy-to-find theme areas, namely general foodstuffs, health food, imported products, food and beverage franchises, frozen and processed foods, beverages, cutlery and tableware, and the trade media.

Exhibitors Offer a Variety of Opportunities

To date, leading buyers around the world have confirmed their attendance at this event organized by TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council) knowing this will be Asia’s greatest food-focused show that’s packed with opportunity across dozens of theme areas:

Condiments and Additives

Evergreen Oil's superior research and design have made them a top exporter of their highly nutritious and qualitative sesame oil. Their secret lies in refining the processing technique to make a high value added product that is cost-effective to produce. Vedan provides another example of research and design that helps produce top quality food products. Vedan's coveted process for producing glutamic acid creates a superb product that won them a 2003 Gold Medal for its innovation. Its MSG is exported to over 128 countries and their product line also includes nutritional supplements, natural food additives, prepared foods, and beverages.

Health Foods and Soybean Products

A global awareness of the importance of health and health foods is a strong part of Taiwan's food industry and culture. Companies like Greenvita, King Kung, Sweet Garden and Nin Jiom all produce health and health food products that will appeal to customers locally and globally.

Taiwan's soybean products are internationally recognized as some of the best in the world. Don't miss the soybean-based sauces that KimLan and WanJaShan proudly produce.

Frozen Foods

70% of Taiwan's food exports are frozen foods. Chen Hsiang Foods' frozen vegetables and snacks, Yi-Lin's ready-to-eat entrees and soups, and Dachan Great Wall's frozen chicken are just some of the frozen foods companies that will be in attendance at FOOD TAIPEI 2007.

Tea, Wine, and Spirits

Taiwan's beverage industry continues to increase its exports with products that are unique to Taiwan and appealing to everyone. Teahouse provides English-style teas to an international market while Shih Cheng seeks to market its 3:15 PM brand of Milk Tea to the European market. In addition to the tea market, Taiwan's rice wine and vinegar industry has blossomed and the industry has grown to include fruit wines, vinegars, and drinks.

Monthly Pick:

DaChan's vertical integration - an example for food manufacturers

Founded in 1938, DaChan Great Wall Group began as a manufacturer of cooking oil, soybean powder, and other types of bean powder. It entered the feed and husbandry industry in 1944 and continued to expand its operations by setting up a meat processing plant in 1993 and establishing its China operations in 1997. Now, DaChan Great Wall is a leader in the chicken farming business and has achieved superb vertical integration capabilities, with operations ranging from animal husbandry to dining services. The company's experience serves as an example for those seeking to achieve vertical integration in their operations.

1. Feed production

DaChan customizes its animal feed products based on the clients' demand. The company's R&D engineers contact customers directly to identify their needs. DaChan uses the same ingredients for making animal feed but adds different materials to customize the feed. This process does not bring extra cost to the firm as the principles of mass production and economies of scale are still being applied.

2. Animal husbandry

DaChan in 2005 established a husbandry business offering total solutions to animal farm operators. Among the services provided by DaChan's husbandry subsidiary are: feed provision, medical check-up on animals, technical support and information consultation. Customers get the benefit of having their animals treated by professionals, obtaining information on animal farming, and receiving consultation on how their farms may be improved.

3. Meat processing

DaChan has two channels for meat distribution. One is the wholesaling channel, which targets restaurants, supermarkets and hypermarkets. The other one is direct distribution to chain restaurants and supermarkets. DaChan has also teamed up with schools and convenience stores to meet their growing demand. It also provides total solutions for restaurant operators by helping them design menus, decorate stores and obtain the most up-to-date market information.

With vertical integration, DaChan is able to monitor and control each aspect of its food manufacturing process and make sure the needs of customers are met. At the same time, vertical integration has given DaChan more room for risk-free management and control. By vertically integrating its operations, DaChan has effectively increased profits and created a higher entry barrier for competitors.
